What the sunset told me
Listen said the tree,
and I did
with my back pressed
against her body.
Listen closely for the sound
of the sunset.
And I heard something
from within my own soul
like my heartbeat
within my chest.
Release your grasp,
the tight hold you have
on life. Cleanse your soul
from the taste of fear,
like metal on your tongue.
In the shadow I see
the birds, with soft eyes,
finding their shelter for the night.
I see the fireflies dance,
and I hear the crickets sing.
My skin grows cooler
as the dew falls silently.
Listen said the sun
and learn to trust again.
What is sunset to you
is not to me.
I never set to myself.
I closed my eyes
and leaned back into
the arms of the dream
who always waits for me.
Look to the moon, my love,
and she will teach you
that all will be well.
