Stones I kneel down to collect myself like stones scattered among the sweet sage. Who is it that looks and pauses to see? Who is it that kneels? Who is it that gathers? What is it that is gathered? Who brushes his finger across the weather-worn face of the dark rough rock and recognizes himself in that which he holds? * * * Labyrinth Take the next step You will arrive at the center It is within yourself * * * [Untitled] I am the deeper part of myself reminding me I am not what I call myself

I am returning from a five-day retreat at the Charis Mandala Sanctuary in Des Moines, New Mexico, led by four incredible souls: Rory McEntee, Netanel Miles-Yepez, Alejandra Warden, and Samantha Krezinski. I went with my friends and colleagues Meg and Mike McPeek. Our focus was to learn the particular framework for Charis Circles, intentional inter-spiritual practice and reflection groups (which we will be starting through the School for Prayer and Spiritual Practice at Grace in Gainesville). It was an extraordinary experience to meditate and reflect with Buddhists, Sufis, Jewish students, animists, quakers, Catholics, and people on the shamanic path—seekers and practitioners all. It showed me again that intentional relationships are possible. We learned that it takes courage and imagination to foster a community of the heart. These new friends gave me hope in very heavy days.
These three poems came in throughout our time together, and I collected them into one place. There was one powerful dream that I will continue to reflect on.
Also, one key aspect of the power of these days was the landscape itself. The sanctuary sits next to Capulin Volcano, and the land is peppered with chunks of volcanic rock. These two photos show the rock, as well as the labyrinth that is there, with the volcano in the background at sunset.
Thank you to the entire team for your deep care and intentional heart. Excited to see what the Spirit is up to.
Blessings,
Stuart Higginbotham
