“Light seeds:” a poem based on a sermon based on a psalm

Light seeds

She learned after a while
it was better to plant them
at night, when the soft earth,
still warm from the sun,
cradled them in her hands,
in the darkness that gives life.

On June 1, Brandon gave an amazing sermon rooted in Psalm 97. You can find that link here if you want to listen (and I think you should):

He showed me his sermon notes that week, paying attention to verse 11: “Light is sown for the righteous…” Looking at the Hebrew words there, he wrote in his notes, “Light seeds.” I was hooked. At both sermons, when he came and sat down after giving the sermon, I looked at him and said “Light seeds!”

Light seeds!

Of course there are light seeds. Of course we are called to plant them. Of course they need good soil to be cradled and sprout and grow…into embodiments of light.

Light is sown for the righteous.

Light seeds are planted in the soil of our hearts, in our soul.

Of course that image will continue to call me to sit and ponder and write.

Blessings, all,

Stuart
Outside the office at Grace, the daisies are just showing off.
