“A flash of the divine:” a poem to remind us…

A flash of the divine

But in that one moment,
the one when sunlight poured
through the green beech leaves,
kissing the skin on my arms,
and I heard your voice
as clear as the day:

You are a flash of the divine,
a moment of my love made flesh,
my own dream embodied
and daring to walk on the earth
with hands wide open
to catch the falling rain.

It is easy to forget who we are—who we all are—together in this world.

It is easy to get caught in the gravity of despair that reaches out its sticky arms and pulls us toward that space of scarcity.

It is easy to become distracted, to let our attention become fixed on the harsh and brittle political contests—modern day gladiators craving for our cheers.

Let us pause.

Let us pause and re-ground ourselves in who (or whom) we truly are—who God sees us to be, believes us to be.

It is soul work to do this. It is our work to do this.

Blessings, all,

Stuart
